Lawang Sewu is a building in Semarang, Central Java, which is the office of the Nederlandsch Indishe Spoorweg Naatschappij or NIS.  Built in 1903 and completed in 1907.  Located at the roundabout Tugu Muda Semarang who once called Wilhelmina Plein.

Local people call it Lawang Sewu (Thousand Doors.)  This is because the building has a door that many (in fact the door is not up to a thousand, maybe also because the window height and width of this building, people also consider it as a door).

Ambarawa train museum in indonesia



Are you interested in tracing the history of railways in Indonesia, we headed Ambarawa Railway Museum located in Semarang District.  This museum is quite interesting considering there is only one in the world that exhibit combined with steam locomotives that can still be way up the mountain.

     Ambarawa since the Dutch East Indies is a military area, so that King Willem I wanted to build a railway station in order to facilitate transport the troops to go to Semarang.  And so, on May 21, 1873 Ambarawa Railway Station was built with a land area of 127,500 m2.  Station heyday Ambarawa known as Willem I, stopped its operation as a railway station with majors Ambarawa Kedungjati Semarang.  And in 1976 to cross Ambarawa Secang Magelang also Ambarawa Parakan Waterford.

Sam Poo Kong Temple is located in the center of town, the area of Simongan. Nothing would be difficult to see him. This location is referred to as a petilasan Semarang people, namely former first landing place of sojourn and a Chinese admiral named Zheng He, Cheng Ho or Sam Po Tay Djien. At that time, Admiral Zheng He sailed down the middle of the sea coast of Java, and was forced to land because there is a sick crew. He was down the river (now called Kaligarang) and landed in a village Simongan. The discovery of a rock cave which is then used to place meditate and pray, and this lasted until now.

After the jump a long history, the month of October 1724 held a massive memorial recalled Sam Po Tay Djien. It was added to the building overhang at the front of the cave. Followed by a second repair in 1879, initiated and financed by tycoon Oei Sien Tjie. Since then the complex was opened to the public. In 1937 Sam Po redeveloped complex.
